Young Gun Capturing Attention in Atlanta
At just 18 years of age, Joseph Cole of Birmingham, Ala., is the youngest competitor in this year's U.S. Amateur Championship. Despite his age, he's playing as well, if not better than, many of the seasoned veterans.
Perhaps it's his youth that's allowed him to play pressure free against men two and three-times his own age, or maybe he's just THAT good.
"This is the first year I've been able to play, and I love it. Obviously there's always pressure, but I'm just trying to play my game and stay confident," said Cole after his third victory of the tournament.
Cole may be the next in a long line of great U.S. Amateur Championship competitors from the state of Alabama. Former champions David Rowell (2000) and Robert Hall (2001) both hail from Alabama, as does last year's Runner-up Richard Andrews.
Cole is proudly sponsored by BumperNets.
"The Black Widow"
Jeanette Lee known as "The Black Widow" in the billiard industry. This picture was taken at the recent Billiard convention in Las Vegas this past June. She is promoting her favorite charity and the Murrey Designer 1000 pool table, this particular table was personally signed by her and will be on display in the new and larger BumperNets that will be opening in early October at the Riverchase Galleria. (See Press Release)
This table is very unique and is a beauty especially with her signature on the side cabinet and also on the rail cloth. It is one of BumperNets favorite pool tables to sell.
Health Benefits of Table Tennis (from Sherri Pitman's July/August 2006 President's Report)
Through table tennis, may we all live a long and happy life. Our clothing sponsor Mitch Rothfleisch, showed up at the World Championships down 100 pounds! How did he do it? He primarily credits table tennis. He said
that he just decided to lose weight and he thought that the best strategy would be to start training again. Congratulations, Mitch!
Through my years promoting the sport, the one thing educators always stress is that they are under constant pressure to produce good results when it comes to standardized testing. Everyone knows the health
benefits of regular exercise, but what they always tell me is something with a different emphasis: “Hey, if you can produce evidence that table tennis is good for kids’ brains, then you could get into the school systems nationwide.” Well, we may have some good news. Just recently I learned of a book by Dr. Daniel Amen, Making a Good Brain Great: The Amen Clinic Program for Achieving and Sustaining Optimal Mental Performance.
And, although I haven’t had a chance to read the book yet, I did do some Internet research. I came upon this statement by Dr. Amen at his clinic’s website, “It is important to be smarter when it comes to our brains. Golf, tennis and table tennis are better sports, especially for children.” In another article, he wrote: “Golf is good. Tennis is terrific. Table tennis is the world’s best game!”
BumperNets
is proud to present Joseph Cole from Warrior, Alabama as our
first sponsored pool player. We sponsor Joseph in tournaments, primarily
in the southeastern United States. Our main goal in sponsoring Joseph
is to give him the experience he needs to accomplish his dream of becoming
a top pro player. Not only is Joseph going to play in tournaments, but
he will also go to local juvenile centers and put on trick shot shows,
to demonstrate to young people that there are positive alternatives to
getting in trouble.
This year we sponsored Joseph in the 2006 Spring Fling at Southern Billiards
in Starkville, Mississippi. This pro-am nine ball event is just one of
three different events that is held twice a year at that venue. There
were about forty five players from all over the United States including
a few of the top professionals from the men’s and women’s
division such as Jamie Barrox, Sarah Rousey, and Chuck Raulston.
This year Joseph improved upon his previous performances at the Southern
Billiard’s events. Joseph defeated some of the top players there
including Sarah Rousey (7-0), Luc Depierne (7-6), Harold McAbee (7-3),
Winston Peacock (7-5), and losing to Tim Orange (6-7) and Jamie Barrox
(4-7) putting him in the money at 7th place.
